Learn more about the work of the Northern Ireland Office and the Devolved Administration

The NIO's objective is to:

Secure a lasting peace in Northern Ireland, based on the Good Friday Agreement, in which the rights and identities of all traditions in Northern Ireland are fully respected and safeguarded, and in which a safe, stable, just, open and tolerant society can thrive and prosper.

The NI Assembly is the devolved government of Northern Ireland.  It is responsible for making and enacting laws on transferred matters in Northern Ireland.  The Assembly sits at Parliament Buildings, Stormont Estate in Belfast.  Members (MLAs) meet to debate issues and introduce laws to support the people of Northern Ireland.  Each MLA represents his or her constituency and there are 6 MLAs for each constituency.

The British Embassy supports the NIO and the NI Executive in pursuit of their objectives and continues to work closely with the Irish Government in support of the political process in Northern Ireland.
